And now I shall describe to you this room of my own, my place of safety. Once you have descended the wooden staircase, you will see a door diagonally opposite you. This door is painted in a light yellow, camomile I suppose, though I hate to use that word as it makes me recollect the tea of the same name which I despise the taste and smell of. The door is illustrated by my own amateur and 'naive' (as professionals would describe it..) portrayal of a grey staircase and archway surrounded by wisteria that leads to a floating ice blue castle. As you enter, you will notice the large white-grey wardrobe, the small double bed, the desk, the shelves and the mosquitoe net first, if you see what I mean. Then, you will notice the plants, the candles, the chair, the stool, the colourful wall behind the door, the colourful curtains placed above the white ones. My room is majoritarilt white because I am a purist and a romantic. However, despite my love of white, I also have a passion for colour and in particular eau de nil turquoise. You may be getting confused. White for me is the ultimate colour for this room in particular, as it requires white, you see. It demands white. It demands swans and snow, clouds and ivory, it demands doves, shells, foam and lilies of the valley. Thus, the walls and the furniture is white. Only the wall behind my bed is eau de nil. This colour I love for its mystery. It is a colour for of gentle intelligence, beauty, languor, romance and delicate passion. The curtains echo the colour of the carpet, they are a light sheer fabric and a pale dusty yellow, while the carpet is patterned and a bolder shade. In coordination with the colour of sunflowers is the famous large square Pre Raphaelite print of 'Flaming June' behind my bed. This painting, for those who are unaware, is that of a beautiful woman lying down at an original angle (no humour intended, quite seriously the pose is one I have not often seen in painting) wearing a flaming orange sheer dress the colour of June sunset and oranges. On one side of the painting (and the bed) there is a white coiffeuse with golden branches (I painted myself) entwined behind it. Strings of white butterflies and lace hang from the branches. On the coiffeuse, little elephants, my perfumes on their dish, my jewels, a white tall vase with dusty pink flowers. A jewellery tree in a dome, fans, and other such shallow things of pleasure. Behind, on the wall hooks that hold necklaces, a collage of artworks, a mobile. Then, on the bed, a mosquito net, (I have several: white, pale orange, eau de nil) but a white one hangs now, several pillows, a duvet all blues and whites and yellows. The bedside table has a lighthouse lamp upon it and three frames full of my favourite pictures. All around my room are fairies, scented candles, and mostly objects you might find in Aladdin's cave. Its is my place of safety, calm and peace but also my place of fantasy, magic and dreams. It is a room of my own.
